Cli.gs URL Shortener To Shut Down

In a move that will once again lead some to question to longevity of the URL shorteners used to shrink links on sites like Twitter, the popular Cl.igs service has announced on its blog (via CenterNetworks ) that it is shutting down. The service has tens of thousands of users and directs tens of millions of URLs per month. The site’s founder writes: On Sunday, 25 Oct 2009 at 12:00:00 GMT, the service will stop accepting new short URLs and will stop logging analytics.

Digg To Launch iPhone App [Video]

Digg is set to debut a new iPhone app, according to an interview with the news site’s founder, Kevin Rose. The revelation was somewhat unintentional: video podcasters Arnt Eriksen and Thomas Moen were interviewing Rose during the FOWA conference in London and spotted him playing with the new app. When the pair inquired about the application, Rose replied: “You’re not even supposed to know about that…nobody knows about that”.

ESPN Fantasy Football is Down

Sports websites and services have a habit of failing at weekends. In mid September, NFL Fieldpass and Gamepass failed on the NFL’s opening weekend. Today it’s ESPN that’s feeling the hit of Sunday traffic: the site’s Fantasy Football service is down, with users complaining that they can’t login.

Daily Show Spoofs New CNN iPhone App [Video]

CNN rightfully warned viewers against driving while texting this week, as studies have found it to be more dangerous than drunk driving. The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, however, noticed an amusing irony: the awesome new CNN iPhone app includes a feature that lets you check traffic reports on your phone while in the car.

Twitter Co-Founder: We Started It for the Giggles [Video]

Based on tweets earlier in the week, we already knew that Biz Stone , Twitter’s co-founder, would make an appearance on Martha Stewart. Stewart’s become an avid Twitterer herself [ @MarthaStewart ], so it’s no surprise that she invited Stone to join the show, though what they would talk about was still anybody’s guess.
